ICMA Workshop: Ethics and the Capital Markets

For the financial markets, the period since the millennium may unfortunately be largely remembered for the corporate collapses of major companies such as Enron, WorldCom and Parmalat due to fraud, then by the excesses of the global financial crisis. The years building up to the crisis were increasingly characterised by the hard sell, greed, short termism and extreme executive compensation which eroded public trust in the finance and banking industry. Trust and integrity seemed to take a back seat.
