Sovereign debt has a long history. In the past debt was often issued to finance war and other extraordinary events. Most recently Public Debt has been used for more peaceful ends, such as real investments, health care, education and communication systems and the establishment of a social security system.
This category deals with all issues related to Sovereign debt only from a historical point of view and pays a special attention to the countries histories in developing domestic bond markets and their infrastructures.
