The Public Debt Management Newtwork

The OECD groups 30 member countries sharing a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. With active relationships with some 70 other countries, NGOs and civil society, it has a global reach. Best known for its publications and its statistics, its work covers economic and social issues from macroeconomics, to trade, education, development and science and innovation. Specialised work on government debt is carried out by the External website Working Party on Government Debt Management (WPDM) which reports to the OECD Committee on Financial Markets. The WPDM constitutes a unique policy forum for government debt managers from OECD Member countries to exchange views and experiences in the field of government debt and government securities markets. The WPDM is part of the OECD Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs (External websiteDAF) which promotes policies and best practices designed to keep markets open, competitive and sustainable while combating market abuse and economic crime through international co-operation.

The External website Public Debt Directorate of the External website Italian Treasury Department , is an active OECD WPDM member and belongs to the External website Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The Treasury Department, leaded by the Director General of the Treasury, carries out activities of technical support for the Government's economic and financial policy and participates in the definition of macroeconomic strategies and to the most relevant programming documents.

The Public Debt Directorate is responsible for coverage of the financial needs, management of national and foreign public debt and financial transactions, as well as analysis of the relative trends and financial flows. Within this Directorate, the International Centre for the dissemination of public debt management techniques takes care of the organisation of international meetings and study visits to the Public Debt Directorate by debt managers from emerging countries.

The Public Debt Management Network Secretariat acts as the executive body of the PDM Network by developing the strategies decided by the Governance Group. It is located inside the Italian Public Debt Directorate.
